DAY 5 * Last full day....

Today is our last full day of camp. They have really enjoyed their worksites this week. It's a blessing hearing their stories of the day. I can't wait for you to hear them as well. As you can well imagine, the youth are a bit sleep deprived and running on fumes. That's pretty typical at the end of the week for camp. But they are plugging right along just fine. The word "nap" is just not in their vocabulary this week. But even in their tired state, they still manage to smile and laugh and have fun. The theme for the day is EMPOWER and how God takes our unique gifts and empowers us to change the world when we work together with God. The scripture focus is from I Corinthians 12:5-6 (CEV) "There are different ways to serve the same Lord, and we can each do different things. Yet the same God works in all of us and helps us in everything we do." During our group time devotion, I read something from a book I'm reading called "Battlefield of the Mind", and it said, "the more time we spend thinking (meditating) about the Word we read and hear, the more power and ability we will have to do it." That is empowering! Tonight's activity is worship and the Variety Show where teens get to share their gifts and talents. I know the youth are looking forward to it. Every day I tell them that they are the best thing that ever happened to God. What can we do today that will show that God is the best thing in us. May your day be great and blessed and empowered!

Day 3 & 4

Hi Every One, Welcome to Day 3 and 4.... Another fun-filled day in the life of Passport was yet again had by all. It is so good to hear their enthusiasm about their day at their worksite. Not only about the work they are doing but also the people they encounter and the friends they are making with other youth groups. They are being very inclusive with one another as well as the friends they bring by for us to meet. They are being a great example of the term "hangin' out". Last night was the "Block Party" where they "danced" and mingled. Beth and Samantha seemed to be more instructors to these poor guys they've made friends with who didn't seem to have an ounce of rythum in their bodies. I'm sure the guys were thankful that the block party was only an hour... Today's morning devotion theme is "Extended Grace" God's forgiveness given to us without us earning it. Ephesians 2:4-10. The question that was presented to them was what things in life that you have been given for free with no strings attached? In their Bible study they will be looking at the question of who or what is one person or situation in which you need to extend God's grace. Pray for them as they put these thoughts and questions into action today at their worksite and here on campus that will extend into their character as they grow in their faith. This afternoon after they return from their mission sites, it is our group free time. We took a vote as to what they would like to do and the movies and dinner got the most votes. We will be seeing the movie "BRAVE" rated PG at the Danville Cinemas at 5:15p Please be assured that any one that needs it will be taken cared of for this event. Then we return for worship at 9p. The weather this week has been great for them to work in and has not been a problem. So thank you Lord for meeting our needs. I read something this morning that I thought was pretty cool... "The Bible is the only book whose author is always present when one reads it" Hope you all have a blessed day and know God's grace!

DAY 2 - TUESDAY

I did not get the opportunity to write last night, rather late and very tired...but what a great day!! The kids are working hard, playing hard and worshipping together!! You would be so proud!! I know that I am...always! This morning at Morning Celebration, they announced the Honor Camper (one who works hard at their worksite, participates in Bible study, and is an encouragment to others in their group)this morning and with much excitement I am proud to say two of our youth got Honor Camper!! Sara Cohen and Bailey Smith!! YAY!! Last night's rec party they did games in honor of the upcoming Olympics. Bailey's team took first place. With much pride in her voice and on her face, she gladly announced that this was her second year in a row. Go Bailey!! As part of our worship last night we had communion. Very worshipful! Beth Wilken got to participate in worship by leading the campers in a responsive reading. As always, she did a fantastic job. Everyone is getting along beautifully. They are such a joy and pleasure to be with and it's an honor to be their youth minister. For the chaperons....different story. HA just kidding. The youth are keeping them straight. Thanks again for your prayers! God is at work and you can tell by their prayers. God is on a roll....He has great things for today too!! Today's theme is "Embrace Community" Morning devotional scripture was Psalm 133:1 "How good and pleasant it is when brothers and sisiters live together in unity." Bible study focus was on Acts 2:42-47, The Fellowship of the Believers. Check it out! More later....

Youth Sunday was a great time of worship!!  I want to give special thanks to a lot of people who help make this time of worship what it was.....worshipful.  To Fernanda Crandol and Anne Keller for working on the journals.  That was hard work ladies and you did a fantastic job.
To Paul Coburn for making the cross that was used in our worship service.   To Nick Pegram and Cole Marks in running the sound and getting all the cords and mics in the right place.  To Fred Horn who put all the music together and how the messages in song went along with the message in word.  Special thanks to our guests, George Dennehy who shared his talents through music and his testimony.  To Tyler Caskey, Josh Davis and Dustin Pegram in the playing of their instruments that led us in worship. Thank you to Jackie Gray in recognizing our graduating seniors and assisting in the Graduating Senior Luncheon.   And BIG thanks to our Youth who gave from the heart!!! Thank you for sharing the message of hope and encouragement of what it means to live intentionally with our faith, our skills, and our time.  We are blessed to have such a great youth group!  And big thanks to our parents for support and encouragement for this ministry.  God has truly blessed us!

Intentional Living

Our theme of worship is being intentional with our
relationship with God, our skills, and our time.

Our goal is to let this worship be a time of examining
how nearly we are living up to our potential.

We hope you will come and share in this worship time with us.
Invite a friend!!

WELCOME!!
I am new to blogging but ready to give it a try.  The purpose of having this blog is to make the news of the Youth Ministry of FBC-Ashland available to all who are interested and even for those who just want to know without having to ask about it.

It's not something I will do every day, but most days you will get some kind of updates, announcements and "this is how it went" reports after an event.

So, here we go....................
